NORTHERN OUTDOORS CATERS TO GUYS
WITH THE ‘MAN-CATION’ GETAWAY
/x-tad-bigger>/bigger>/fontfamily>/center>
Combining great rafting, great beer, and great food with some
quality ‘guy time,’
the ‘Man-cation’ is all about male bonding on a grand scale
/smaller>/fontfamily>/center>
Northern Outdoors, Maine’s premier resort for outdoor
adventure, is offering guys an opportunity to get away for some
serious male bonding and a variety of manly activities with the
‘Man-cation’ getaway.
Combining three manly favorites- heart-pounding
whitewater rafting, micro-brewed beer, and a restaurant serving
variety of steaks and burgers- Northern Outdoors encourages the
guys to get away this spring and exchange wool shirts and snow
shovels for neoprene wetsuits and paddles while the rafting is
at it’s best and the accommodations are the most affordable.
“Every year, we see several all-male groups visiting Northern
Outdoors for a guys getaway weekend of rafting, drinking, and
acting like men, so we figured why not encourage this sort of
behavior,” says Russell Walters, president of Northern Outdoors.
“Girlfriend Getaways are becoming more popular every year, so
why not let the guys have some fun too? Besides, there is no
better cure for cabin fever than time spent outdoors with
friends.”
After an unusually long and snowy New England winter, even the
slightest hint of spring can inspire winter-weary northerners to
get a jump on the spring season. While many will opt for yard
work, a long walk or picking fiddleheads, the manlier among us
will round up a group of like-minded friends, grab a paddle, and
take a ‘Man-cation’ with Northern Outdoors.
Already offering several packages to entice group visits
including discounted lodging and a free day of rafting for group
organizers, Northern Outdoors hopes the ‘Man-cation’ concept
will entice more visitors to take advantage of group deals.
As an all inclusive, full service resort, Northern Outdoors is a
convenient destination for guys looking to live it up a bit. A
full service restaurant and onsite brewpub within walking
distance of lodging eliminates the need for a designated driver,
allowing everyone to savor a couple hand crafted pints after a
day of rafting.
Northern Outdoors is well known for serving up one of the finest
whitewater rafting experiences east of the Mississippi, and
spring snowmelt makes early season the best time of year for
guys looking for big waves, challenging rapids, and a thrilling
ride.
As the Maine snow pack begins to melt, the lakes that feed the
area’s rivers fill to near capacity and the dam releases during
this time of year are some of the biggest of the season. With
snow pack well above average this year, May and June are
expected to offer some of Maine’s biggest whitewater in years.
The Kennebec River, with dam releases and whitewater rafting
offered daily throughout the summer, will supply serious
adventure seekers with the biggest, burliest rapids of the
season in the coming weeks.
The Dead River, offering the most continuous whitewater in the
east, is only open to rafting 10 times each season with six of
these dates scheduled before the end of June. Early season is
the best time of year to take advantage of this one-of-a-kind
rafting experience.
Rafting season officially gets underway May 3 on the Dead River
and May 4 on the Kennebec and the best rafting deals of the year
are offered during the spring. Trips start at just $59 on both
rivers through the end of May.
