Around the Track with John Williams

My profile this week is Ryan Newman, the driver of the No. 31 Caterpiller Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing and frankly one of the surprises of the current Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship!

Not many experts would have imagined that after the first four races of the Championship knock-out series the 36 year old Indiana native would be sitting in 3rd place tied with Carl Edwards & just 9 points back of leader Joey Logano!

But Newman, who is winless in 2014, has a legitimate shot at his first championship in his 13th season in the Sprint Cup Series..nick named the “Rocket Man”  for his ability to win poles, New man has 17 career cup wins and beat out Jimmie Johnson for rookie of the year in 2002..

Ryan is also one of the elite drivers who won in all three of Nascar’s major divisions with 7 Nationwide Series  & 1 Camping World Truck Series wins..
