I love apples, just about every kind and this coming Sunday, September 11, it’s Apple Sunday across Maine with orchards  featuring special events & activities for the entire family. Go for it! You can find lots of info about orchards all over maine  at www.maineapples.org!

Hey all of you Fly Fishermen & Fly Fisherwomen, you can still sign on for the 4th Annual Upper Andro Two-Fly Tournament on September 16th. Go to the website for information but I have to say that this is a great event and helps support the continuing effort of many dedicated individuals in making the Androscoggin one of the best fisheries in the state! I’ve competed every year ith my Grandson Tyler, who won the inaugural tournament with a nice 2 pund, 19 inch Brown Trout! look forward to seeing you there! JW

Wet & Wild & get that Hex Htach going!

Monday, July 11th, 2011
  • Tweet

Hi again..ever been to Northern Outdoors in the Forks of Maine. It’s about time. Russell and the gang offer true outdoor excitement with White Water Rafting on the Kennebec, Penobscot & Dead Rivers. The best in the East! I love it up there and the lodge and a cold brew after a great day on the river suits me just fine!

And across and down to the Rangeley area, Grants Camps on Kennebago is in the midts of one of the best seasons in years with the Hex on the fly, you know the really BIG Mayflies and the trout and Salmon are devouring them. I’ll be at Grants to talk all about it this weekend with owner John Blunt. Did I say talk? I mean fish!

See you there!

Grants Camps on Kennebago Lake!!!

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Hey everybody..I had probably one of the best weekends of fly fishing in my life up at Kennebago Lake outside of Rangeley at Grants Camps..when owner John Blunt said the fishing was tremendous, he wasn’t kidding…everything was on top and we were using Hendricksons, Blue Olive, Caddis and the Brook Trout and Salmon..unbelievable!

The trout averaged between a foot and up to 17 inches and they were hitting the flies with authority..having the opportunity to talk fly fishing with someone like John Blunt is always a treat..great food, good conversation and spectacular results..go to Grantscamps.com and get on that lake!  JW

Grants Camps-the best Fly Fishing in the East!

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011
  • Tweet

Hi all..I do outdoor adventure reporting for a living so don’t mind me if I spout off about Grants Kennebagpo Camps just outside of Rangeley, Maine in the Wilson Mills area. Pristine lake..legendary river..landlocked salmon, brook trout and brown trout..all native..no stocking here! Grants have been around since the mid 1800′s and I’ve been going there most of my 59 years. Superb accomodations and yet still rustic. Great food, three times a day! Did I mention the fishing…tie on a black ghost and dive this time of the year. I took out an 8 pound brown five years ago and look for more of that this weekend! What do you think?
